About Margate Soul Weekender.

Held annually in Margate, Kent, the Weekender brings together live artists, DJs, dancers, families, friends and long-time soul lovers for a weekend shaped by music and belonging.

The sound moves across soul, funk, jazz-funk, disco, boogie, lovers rock, reggae, R&B, Latin, Afro and soulful house.

The setting is Margate: the beach, the harbour, the Old Town, the venues, the seafront and the people who give the Weekender its character.

In 2026, Margate Soul Weekender celebrates 25 years of soul by the sea. It is a milestone for the event, the town and the community that has carried it forward year after year.

The Short Story.

Margate Soul Weekender began with music, food, friendship and determination. Its roots go back to the early street gatherings around Fort Hill, Carnival Corner and Olby’s. Local DJs, sound systems and a committed crowd helped create something that Margate had not seen before.

The music moved into the streets and found its people. From those first open-air gatherings, the Weekender grew year by year. More people came. More venues joined. The stages became bigger. The sound travelled further. Margate became a summer meeting point for the UK soul community.

The Weekender has always carried more than music. It carries memory. It carries culture. It carries pride. It carries Margate.

In 2026, Margate Soul Weekender celebrates 25 years of soul by the sea. The story continues in the town that gave it life.
